Chris Cannon is a story hunter. As a Creative Director at BSTRO, he uses his decades of experience as a writer, editor, filmmaker, and academic to help clients discover their authentic selves.
In fourth grade Chris won the “Best Poet” award in his class of 30 children, and took it as a call to adventure. He has since covered the world as a travel writer, nature photographer, story reader for Francis Ford Coppola, editor at the University of Chicago Magazine, and intelligence specialist in the US Marine Corps (including two years on White House duty). His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, Billboard, MTV, CNN, BBC, the New Republic, and many others. He’s edited more than 20 books, and has authored a travel guide to New York, three books on the history of popular music, and the bestselling satire “America But Better.”
Chris’ passion is helping people find their stories — whether it’s a personal memoir, a business owner’s brand identity, or a Silicon Valley startup trying to write their next three chapters — drawing on his breadth of experience to constantly seek new perspectives.
Chris holds degrees in Anthropology from Columbia University and the University of Chicago, and has taught in the Creative Writing program and the School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia. He’s won numerous awards and fellowships, and is (ok, was) an elite ultimate frisbee player, medaling in several national and world championships. He is obsessed with growing garlic scapes. Local polls indicate he is the world’s best dad.
