Digital Cinema UI

NEC had developed a powerful software application capable of remotely managing every aspect of digital movie screening across entire chains of theatres. This NEC-Starus software managed satellite downloads, the creation of movie and digital ad playlists, and even oversaw the management of screening room schedules for months at a time.

Sounds great, right? Trouble was, nobody at any of those movie theatre chains set to benefit from this NEC technology had any idea how to use the complicated software.

So NEC asked B’stro to create a high-end, NEC and Starus-branded interface that provided theatre employees with the tools they needed to easily understand and operate the software, allowing them to intuitively control the screens and operations involved in the process.

By keeping conventions of the different screens of the UI consistent throughout—no easy task, considering the complex functionality of the software—our final product enabled even less-than-tech savvy employees to navigate successfully through the multiple screens controlling the many different aspects of theatre management. We also took great care to keep our color scheme vibrant but still muted, out of consideration for the men and women who would spend long hours looking at the screen.
